Review: Scruff-a-Luvs Families Rescue Pet

The girls and I were recently asked if we’d like to review Scruff-a-Luvs Families Rescue Pets and of course, we said yes!

Elsies actually had a Scruff-a-Luv on her ‘wish list’ for a while now and so she was absolutely over the moon when the package arrived and even more so when I explained that there’s a mystery family inside waiting to be rescued.

Once you open the box you reveal the mummy pet all scrunched up and in need of some TLC along with a bunch of other surprises to open. Each family comes with either twin babies or rare triplets. It’s up to the rescuer, in this case, Florence, Elsie and Mabel, to care for the family and discover what type of animal they are rescuing, the gender and how many there are.

The family comes with instructions on how to ‘rescue’ them and Florence took the helm and delegated jobs to her sisters.

We placed some lukewarm water in a bowl as directed and washed our Scruff-a-Luvs. As the water soaks into the crusty fur ball it soon starts to loosen and, as the mummy pet opens out, she reveals whether you’ve rescued twins or triplets – in our case it was twins. We had a minor meltdown from Elsie who wanted a cat but it turns out we had rescued a family of dogs.

The girls gave the pets a good wash, towel dried them and then we gave them a quick blast with the hairdryer. We used the brush that came with the pets to tidy up their fur, along with just a normal ‘human’ hairbrush that we already had at home, and the girls then rubbed their hearts to see whether they were boys or girls. Turns out we had rescued two sisters.

The girls really enjoyed the whole surprise element of this toy and I liked the fact that the packaging involved very minimal plastic – unlike some other surprise toys on the market. It was also good that the girls could share the pets between them rather than squabbling over one toy. Mabel, my youngest, has actually commandeered the mummy rescue pet whilst Florence and Elsie seem happy to have a sister each.

The girls have been carrying their Scruff-a-Luvs around with them everywhere and yes, they’re scruffy, but I think that’s part of the charm! You do have to ensure that you wash them thoroughly, as per the instructions, and give them a really good brush to fluff up the fur.
