You may have seen on my Instagram that I was recently chosen to be a ‘Bandita Mum’ on behalf of Belly Bandit. I had read up a lot about the brand on other blogs and thought it sounded like something I wanted to be a part of. Belly Bandit is a female owned brand from the USA which sells pre and post pregnancy shape wear as recommended by physicians, nurses and, most importantly, new mums. Although the brand started in the USA it recently launched in Mothercare in the UK – great news! You can buy shape wear in other high streets stores but I think it’s comforting to know that this shape wear has been designed specifically with pregnancy in mind.
I was a little sceptical that shape wear would mean tight, uncomfortable under wear which might make me look good but was unbearable to wear. When my bra arrived I dashed upstairs and changed in to it to check it fitted. I ordered the bra in Black (it also comes in Nude) and a size Large which seems suitable for cup size D+ or dress size 12+. The BDA Bra essentially doubles as a sleep and nursing bra and is designed to be useful before during and after pregnancy. I can already tell this is going to be my favourite nursing bra. The front of the bra is a crossover design and there are no clasps, buttons or buckles. There are no underwires and it hugs the body without feeling tight. It almost feels like it provides the support of a sports bra but without the uncomfortable straps and reinforced sections. In fact the bra is designed to grow and shrink with your changing shape.
I think it would be hard to tell this bra is actually being worn – it’s really lightweight and discrete. Some of my maternity bras have seams running right through the nipple area which causes the bra to pucker up and can cause some lingering stares!
The back of the bra is quite full so it really supports and spreads the weight from your ever growing assets rather then all the weight being put on a narrow strap. Its so nice to be able to just pull on a bra rather then twist and turn to get the clasps done up.
I will be nursing properly for the first time with baby number three and I am excited to see how this bra stands up to the test. I will be doing a little round up of my favourite newborn essentials and this bra, at the moment, is definitely a contender.
