Is it Time to Start House-Hunting?

If you’ve already entertained the thought of moving house, then it’s only a matter of time before you start house-hunting.

There are many reasons not to move house, of course, including the cost and the inconvenience of having to pack up and start all over again. But there are plenty of great reasons too, so if you need a little nudge to make the decision, give the following some food for thought.

Take a look at the following signs it’s time to start house-hunting.

Your house is too small

A house can feel huge when you first move into it, but that can soon change over time. Once you start filling it, and even having children, space can become an issue, and your house can soon feel cluttered and crowded. Moving to a bigger house can be a logical next step on the property ladder, helping you to grow your home with your family.

Of course, moving doesn’t have to be your only option – an extension can also add more space to your home. Weigh up the cost of an extension versus moving to help you see which is best for you.

You don’t like the area

You can fall out of love with an area for many reasons, or maybe you simply want to live elsewhere. A location that was once suitable for you might not be anymore. When choosing the right location, you should think about things such as schools, amenities and outdoor spaces. You might even want to think about moving to an estate or somewhere with more of a community feel. Explore the types of places you’d like to move so you can start seeing what’s available in your price range.

You don’t care about your house the way you once did

When you first move into a house, you get all excited about what can be done to it. You’re constantly cleaning and making an effort to keep it pristine. But when thoughts of moving start creeping in, it’s easy to start ignoring your chores or letting DIY jobs slide. When you lose the passion for your home, that’s a good sign that it’s time to move on.

You’re already looking at listings

If you already find yourself browsing houses on Rightmove or elsewhere, it’s a good sign that you’re ready for change. Even ‘just having a look’ means you’re thinking about something else, and that’s absolutely fine! Why not turn that ‘just having a look’ into some actual viewings?

There are a lot of great reasons to move home, and many people will buy and sell multiple houses in their lifetime. Getting your existing home into a great position to sell will help you get the most from your move. Check out some of the things you can do to add value to your home ready for you to take the next step on the property ladder.
