Our love story – how we met

A bit of a different one from me today, Matt and I have been married for just over two years and being pregnant again has made me feel all nostalgic and grateful for what I have.  So here is our love story – how we met.

In 2005 I started working for G4S. That’s right, that company that bodged up the security at the Olympics.  I didn’t have anything to do with that so please don’t hate me!

I worked there for several years and really enjoyed each and every role I had.  I spent the most time as a Project Manager within the FM (facilities management) sector (yawn) and my main responsibility was to coordinate the various teams to ensure we produce coherent, accurate and competitive bids for FM contracts.  Are you still with me?

Anyways, for the most part each bid had to be submitted in multiple hard copies as well as an electronic or soft version.  The size of the bids we produced were far too large for a standard office printer and so we outsourced to a printers in Cheltenham.  There were two chaps at the printers we dealt with.  One seemed friendly and always up for a chat and the other, well he scared me a bit as he didn’t seem that keen on small talk and was always quick to get off the phone.

At this time Logan was about 22 months old and I had been spending a lot of time working away.  My fiancé, at the time, and I drifted apart and I realised I just didn’t feel enough to stay in the relationship.  It was the hardest decision I have ever made.  Breaking up is never easy but when there’s a child involved it’s a decision that will effect not only your life but your son/daughters as well.

A few months later and things started to look up…

Work was pretty manic and I was always on the phone or email to the printers.  One thing led to another, as they say, and before I know it the scary chap at the printers was now taking me on a date!  He says I gave a sob story about how lonely I was but I think he came on to me with all the chat about him learning to fly – girls love uniform!! That’s an argument for another time.

We went on a date a few days later, Matt was tipsy when he turned up, which he says was due to nerves….but we had a blast.  We laughed, a lot.  Mainly at a girl who fell over the in the Thai restaurant we went to. Soon after another date followed and within six weeks we were off to Tenerife to stay in one of his colleagues apartments for a few nights.  This was where we had our first drunken row.  I cringe about it now but we got through it.

Matt has always and always will make me smile. From feeling a bit intimidated by him for all those years to being my children’s father and my husband.  It really is true what you say….you just never know what’s around the corner.
