My Spring Style

A few weeks ago I was on a mission to fill my wardrobe with plenty of Spring style pieces in preparation for our holiday to the Canary Islands and also in hopes that, when we returned, it would be bare legs and sandals weather. Sadly that hasn’t been the case and I’ve been forced to drag the winter knits out from the back of the wardrobe. However, we did get a lot of sunshine on holiday and I was excited to wear some of the new outfits I’d chosen to bring with me.

Being around six months pregnant it’s really quite hard to find flattering and comfortable pieces which are stylish too. I needed my clothing to be pretty minimal as the weather was very warm and my body temperature is through the roof at the moment. I also needed it to be suitable to chase Elsie around, as she’s now walking, and also cover enough that I don’t feel I’ve got it all ‘hanging out’ so to speak.

I was asked by Simply Be if I’d like to choose an outfit from their website and at first I was unsure whether it would work. Being pregnant I didn’t really think I’d find anything that looked quite right but how wrong I was. I could have chosen several pieces. Sure, some of the items weren’t suitable for my shape but I’ve definitely got my eye on them for when I’m postpartum. I was also of the impression that Simply Be were for larger women only but they start from a size 12, which is my usual size when I’m not pregnant, and actually the fit of the clothing suits me as I am a curvy woman with hips and breasts!

My favourite piece by far was this gorgeous striped, cold shoulder dress. I’ve never worn anything like it but what’s not to like; it’s striped after all! Anyone who knows me knows I love a good nautical stripe. It’s also 100% cotton so I knew it would be suitable for the soaring temperatures in the Canary Islands. I love that the dress still has the Bardot style frill and off the shoulder detail yet I don’t need to worry about it constantly riding up on to my shoulders as many Bardot style tops do.my spring styleI kept my outfit really simple and just paired the dress with a pair of leather tan and gold mules/sliders. The great thing about Simply Be is; not only do they have as good a choice as you’d find on the High Street, but they also come in many width fittings suitable for those with wide feet or a high in step. It was a relief to be able to almost tailor the shoe to my feet rather than trying to force myself to fit in a standard size 6. With the pregnancy and heat my feet are a little swollen so this strap style are perfect because I can order a wider fit to allow the straps to sit comfortably over my puffy feet! The metallic is just a gorgeous addition and looks fab with the tan.
