Now we know bump number four is a girl we’ve been deep in conversation about girls names. It’s kind of typical; we already had a boys name picked out so now we need to return to girls names and start narrowing it down.
Matt and I are on a pretty similar wave length when it comes to names. We like proper names which aren’t extremely common. I guess, based on our current girls names (Elsie and Florence), that you could say we like old fashioned names. We kind of have a short list, names which keep recurring in conversation, but we’re pretty far off making that final decision and still searching for inspiration so perhaps neither of us are 100% happy with the ones we have so far.
Both Elsie and Florence were in the running throughout each pregnancy along with a few other names. We waited until Florence was born to name her – I’m not sure why, I think I wanted to see what she looked like. With Elsie we had made the decision well before labour and I’d already ordered a personalised bib for her to wear. I think knowing what our daughter would be called actually helped me bond with her and we could talk to Logan and Florence about her in a way that sounded more familiar rather than just call her ‘baby’.
I’d like to settle on a name prior to labour this time around too but its got to feel right, I won’t settle on a name just for the sake of it.
I love hearing other people’s name choices and I know some people think it’s silly to keep the name a secret until the baby’s born but I think it makes it all more exciting for everyone involved. I’m also fascinated by people who choose themes for their baby’s names e.g. all names beginning with the same letter or all names which are also a type of flower. When choosing Logan’s name I didn’t even consider siblings or their names, I chose Logan’s name because I just happened to like it and, at the time, it wasn’t all that common.
So, without further ado here are my top five girls names, in no particular order; (these could quite easily change): Mabel, Edith, Bessie, Violet and Delilah. Elsie was almost a Delilah but we were a little worried about upsetting the religious part of the family – she wasn’t a very pleasant lady according to the Bible!

I have a Ellie and a Rebecca although it gets shortened to Becky. If I was to have another child now I wouldn’t know what to call it. Eek x

I think Mabel is one my absolute favourites at the moment but by next week it will probably be something else lol! I love the name Eleanor too but we have someone close to the family called it already and I wouldn’t want them to be called the same x
